About us
The story of East India Company begins long before the first dining room existed. In the late 1960s, when the Mehra family arrived in Canada, they brought with them generations of culinary tradition — including a cherished yogurt culture carefully carried from India. That same culture lives on in our kitchens today, forming the base of our marinades, raitas, and many of our signature dishes. In the early 1970s, Kamal and Sudha Mehra welcomed guests for the first time at Mehra’s Delicatessen on McDermot Avenue in Winnipeg. While Kamal worked two jobs to support the family, the deli earned a reputation for generous hospitality and comforting food. It marked the beginning of a lifelong journey built around flavour, community, and family.
