About us
“Manx National Heritage exists to take a lead in protecting, conserving, making available and celebrating the Island’s natural and cultural heritage for current and future generations, whilst contributing to the Island’s prosperity and quality of life”. We were originally created in the 1880’s to research and care for the Ancient Monuments of the Island. Over the years we have added museum, library, archive and art gallery functions to our remit, and in the 1950’s formally became the National Trust for the Isle of Man. On a day to day basis the Trust operates at ‘arm’s length’ from Government, however, we do receive Government support, which helps fulfil our statutory functions and contribute to objectives for the culture, heritage and economy of the Island.
