FAWE Ghana is a member-based Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) led by Ghanaian women working towards equality in education across Ghana. As a chapter of FAWE Africa, whose Regional Secretariat is in Kenya, FAWE Ghana’s main objective is to empower girls and women through education. It was formed in June 1993 in response to the call to translate FAWE Africa’s mandate into action at the country level with the main aim of seeking appropriate strategies, mechanisms, and interventions to achieve FAWE Africa’s objectives at the national level. In 1992, the late Hon. Vida Amaadi Yeboah, alongside four other African women ministers of education, co-founded FAWE with the conviction that Africa’s development required the full participation of educated women. Upon returning to Ghana, she mobilized women in education to form the core of FAWE Ghana.
